### Summary
You will serve as a AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Public Works Department of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE.

### Responsibilities
* You will repair commercial or industrial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems (e.g., walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, ice machines, heat pumps, evaporative coolers, attic and condenser fans) to maintain operability.
* You will use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment (e.g., acetylene torch, ammeters, refrigeration gauges, electronic leak detectors, control devices, vacuum pump, hydraulic press, micrometers) to explore probable reasons for equipment failure.
* You will troubleshoot and repair defective parts and components of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems to verify operating condition.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Must possess a Universal Certification received from an EPA approved certifying program.
This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the duties of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic under normal supervision: 1) Performing minor repairs and maintenance to domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and equipment; 2) Working from blueprints and work orders to assist in the repair and installation of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and equipment; and 3) Selecting tools and testing devices to install and determine repairs needed on domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and equipment. Working under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 40 pounds unassisted and over 40 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions.
The employee works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Subject to possible burns from refrigerants. Works near moving parts of equipment. May be subject to sudden and frequent temperature changes.
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
