The Banquet Captain is responsible for providing superior service to both the internal and external customer. The Banquet Captain is also responsible for supervising the service and coordinating the staff for all banquets, meetings and convention center functions involving food and/or convention space, ensuring timely, courteous service according to clients' needs. This position is responsible for the prompt meeting and seating of guests and overseeing their service needs.




Responsibilities

1.Ensures guests are directed to tables which are set and ready and where food service can be provided in an orderly manner.


2. Responsible for morale of staff through quality of supervision and training and provides training for all assigned outlet personnel to ensure customer service standards are met.


3. Works with Sous Chef and kitchen staff to ensure proper food preparation and timing, and that all last-minute changes are taken care of in order to ensure highest levels of customer satisfaction.


4. Opens and closes work area at scheduled times, ensuring full preparation for operation/function, as well as ensuring cleanliness and security of company assets.


5. Coordinates wait staff and busperson activities; coordinates room setup with stewards and oversees placement of buffets, risers, head tables, etc.


6. Communicates closely with the Banquet Director regarding shift activities and other information relative to the effective operation of the banquet groups, such as providing input on employee performance appraisals. Assists the Banquet Director on an "as-needed basis" with wait staff work schedules and time and attendance and any administrative tasks.



+ This position is subject to varying levels of crowds, noise and smoke, the severity of which depends upon customer volume.


+ Ability to transport trays and/or plates throughout the banquet area which may weigh up to 50 pounds, as well as serve food items and beverages.


+ Ability to review and comprehend necessary documentation.


+ Ability to take down orders, recite specials and point out specific items on the menu to customers.


+ Ability to stand throughout an eight-hour shift.


+ Ability to effectively and efficiently move throughout the banquet and the kitchen area.


+ Ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers alike.








What are we looking for?





+ Experience waiting tables and supervising banquet or catering facilities.






These skills and abilities are typically acquired through minimum of three years' progressive food and beverage experience. Prior banquet or convention experience preferred.
